Appearance: Caucasian, medium build, lightish brown hair in a distinctive mullet, a quartz-timer watch, casual clothes (usually white T-shirt, jeans, belt (which is sewn such that it makes a leather tube), leather bomber jacket), tends to carry a Swiss Army Knife and a supply of duct tape, with a small assortment of other tools like matches if possible.

Personality: MacGyver - or "Mac" as his friends call him - is an affable fellow and is very easy to get along with. He often seems unhurried, which emphasizes his folksy manner of speaking, but this stands in sharp contrast to his keen and penetrating intellect. Typically, he would relate a story about a childhood fishing excursion or the like to his current task at hand, which may involve federal documents, mobsters, or high-tech security systems. All the while, he will be preparing some kind of plan or contraption to achieve his objectives, using his anecdote as a framework to explain it to his peers.

MacGyver's easygoing nature also actually extends to his plans. His anecdotes tie into his plan insofar as the goal and the general method, but he tends to improvise as he goes along. This sometimes lands him in trouble if his improvisation doesn't work, but his scientific knowledge and quick thinking usually serve him well.

When dealing with people, MacGyver tends to be straightforward and honest, with a healthy dose of humor. He sometimes uses a joke to distract people while putting one of his trademark improvisations into play, or simply because he wants to lighten up a situation.

His personal opinions tend to be liberal: he is a strong advocate of gun control (despite the death of his friend, however, he has little fear of guns and will use them in his gadgets, simply not to wound or kill), environmentalism, and social justice for people of all colors and creeds, though he doesn't often broach his opinions in casual conversation. It is this outlook, in fact, that led him to join the humanitarian Phoenix Foundation after leaving the DXS.

One pet peeve of his is that he doesn't like his first name - Angus - and prefers people not to call him by that name. When asked for his name, he'll always say "MacGyver."

Abilities: Excellent grasp of physics, chemistry, and engineering. Uses these fields in combination with each other to create ingenious jury-rigged contraptions from found objects in order to solve problems and repel opponents. Also an excellent mountain climber despite his acrophobia. He also has experience playing ice hockey, and is an avid fan. Furthermore, he is a somewhat accomplished linguist who has a working command of Russian, French, German, and Italian, as well as a good command of American Sign Language and Morse Code.


Weaknesses: Acrophobic, refuses to use guns or lethal force of any kind (will use guns in a non-lethal way), tends to rely on surroundings in order to solve problems, is still a normal squishy fleshbag human being.

History: Angus MacGyver was born on March 23, 1951 and raised in Mission City, Minnesota by his mother after his grandfather and father died in a car accident when he was seven. His early teens saw the death of his friend, named Jesse, via an accident with a revolver. The incident influenced his current views on gun control. Tragedy struck again at age 19, when his mother passed on due to illness.

After high school, MacGyver attended Western Tech and graduated as part of the Class of '73 with bachelor's degrees in physics and chemistry. One of his mentors was Julian Ryman, who had a knack for using everyday objects to solve problems. This skill would later become MacGyver's signature approach to problem-solving as well.

After college, he worked as a bomb disposal expert in Vietnam for a short time, and upon returning moved to Los Angeles. There, he worked odd jobs until 1979, when he met Peter Thornton, an agent at the Department of External Services. After an incident in which MacGyver saved Thornton's life, he was offered a job at the DXS, which he accepted. He worked with Thornton and the DXS until 1986, when Thornton left the DXS for the non-profit Phoenix Foundation. MacGyver followed him, and is currently in the employ of the Foundation as a troubleshooter engaging in field work.
